Hate Mail Montage from December!

During December of 2009, I filed a complaint concerning an unconstitutional religious display at the Luzerne County Courthouse – this letter was sent.
The nativity scene and menorah were taken down along with the snowman behind the tree as evidenced in this press release. Because of this, I received a great deal of hate from many residents of Luzerne County.
If you’d like to read all of the media coverage and associated stories, feel free to browse through December 2009 of my blog.
This isn’t everything negative, but it is a great deal of it.

  • Wow… Cannot say that I am shocked. This is just so sad.

  • wow despite its size that’s a very high profile target. your a brave man to light such a touchpaper . i think perhaps you could have gone for a compromise solution perhaps just by adding models of thor, the flying spaggeti monster, bhudda, kali and perhaps a christopher hitchens to the traditional nativity theme . remember only when their nativity scene resembles a toddlers toy box will the true freedoms of secular government be satisfied.

  • I have gone through only the first 10 interactions. While I agree that some of it is abusive, I wouldnt call this ‘hate’ mail.

The word ‘hate’ is overloaded to have weak connotations.. such as “I hate this weather”, as well as strong connotations.. such as hate crimes/ hate groups/ hate movement where there goal is to cause real physical/legal/material damage. I suspect that ‘hate mail’ falls in the latter category, in which case ‘Abusive mail’ might be a better term for what you got.
    From Wikipedia,

Hate mail (as electronic, posted, or otherwise) is a form of harassment, usually consisting of invective and potentially intimidating or threatening comments towards the recipient. Hate mail often contains exceptionally abusive, foul or otherwise hurtful language.

Excluding the theological element, a lot of these people sound similar to the Pharyngulites, Ophelia’s followers, and other FTB sycophants.
